It’s at the heart of the story of Scripture – from the very first pages to the last and it’s the golden thread that binds everything together. It is the reason for our existence and it is the essence of God’s character. It is supposed to be the thing that defines the followers of Jesus and it is the vision of the world for which we hope and for which we work… the Kingdom of God made a reality in and among us… and it is LOVE.
Love is at the heart of the Gospel message and at the heart of God. There is a lot going on in the world right now and a million different messages we have to take in and figure out and interpret and try to understand. There are things thrown at us all day long about who we are or should be or what defines us or what we should be focusing on and so, at the beginning of this year, we wanted to go back to this unshakable truth that brings hope no matter where we find ourselves… that we are LOVED by God. That our reality is defined by the love of God and what that means for humanity. May that truth they strengthen your heart qnd help you to focus on what really matters. May it equip you to engage in the world with courage and compassion.
1 John 4:7-8:
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: he sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
